Style Chat With HK Tatler's Justine Lee
1. Who are you?
Justine Lee - fashion stylist and writer, Fashion Editor of Hong Kong Tatler.
2. Who are you paying attention lately?
All of these designers on the move - Raf! Alber! Demna! FW '16 will definitely be a very exciting season!
3. Share with us the process of styling a photo shoot?
It varies. If we're doing a fashion editorial, I'll speak with the photographer I want to work with and we come up with a concept together. I'll pull clothes from various brands beforehand and ideally put together the looks a day before we shoot. I like to go into a shoot feeling prepared!
4. Do you have a favorite project?
I love styling fashion shoots - I came across this carpet store in HK and was able to line up a shoot there. I love how things just fall into place sometimes.
I also like styling cover stories for Tatler - those are always a person out and about in the scene so it's about finding clothes that reveal who they are.
5. Since you are a frequenter of formal events, what's your rule of thumb for dressing up and having a good time?
Make sure you're comfortable and confident in what you wear. If you're pulling on your skirt hem constantly, or fixing up your top the entire event...it shows! I always start dressing with the shoes and plan my outfit upwards.
6. What are you currently...
Reading? Ashamed to say I haven't read a book in some time. On my last holiday I brought a book with me but discovered the podcast Serial at the same time haha. I just read the Vogue US October issue and loved the article on Eddie Redmayne's new film and the story on space travel and Elon Musk.
Watching? TV: Empire, Narcos. Films: just watched Dope and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. last week and loved both!
Eating? What am I NOT eating? Hahaha. Loving Tartine, a new resto in HK. Also just went back to Sushi Kado last week, their omakase sushi menu is such a treat.
Obsessing over? Calligraphy! I just got a set from a friend and am self-taught as of right now...can't wait to take a class. Also, I'm going to Sydney for the holidays with some friends so I'm focused on getting my summer body this winter and eating right and exercising.
